一、Types of waterproof and breathable fabric

　　In the last ten years, a lot of waterproof and breathable fabrics appears in the market. Generally speaking, there a three types as below:

1, High-density fabric
　　This kind of fabric is made from fine cotton yarn and other superfine synthetic fibre, and that make it have high moisture permeability, and after arrangement, it has certain water-resistance. Take a example as Japan Zhongfang company make a high-density fabric. The density of this fabric is 20 times than usual fabric, it has a performance of 600mm water-resistance and 7000g/m2.24hr. and the fabric produced by Teihito has a performance of 700mm water-resistance and 8000g/m2.24hr. The characteristic of the high-density is the high moisture permeability, soft and smooth. But the water-resistance is very low(usual lower than 100mm). 2, Coating fabric
　　The coating can be divided into hydrophilic coating and micro-porous coating.
Hydrophilic coating fabric is covered with a hydrophilic coating on its surface, therefore the coating cover all the space of the fabric then it reach a performance of waterproof. If there's hydrophilic radical molecule chain with reasonable content and array, they can react with water molecule. The molecule of water is absorbed on the high side of the higher humidity using hydrogen bond and other intermolecular force and then desorbed after transferred to the lower humidity side through hydrophilic radical on the macromolecular chain. Therefore if coating fabric add hydrophilic coating can improve its breathability.
Micro-porous coating fabric is a coating that forever micro-pores and passage system. If the maximum diameter of the pore of the surface is lower than 2-3 um, then the fabric has a performance of waterproof, also, this micro-pores structure is breathable.
